CASTORLAND- LaVeda M. Taube, 81, died peacefully and gracefully on Wednesday evening, December 5th at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.
She was born June 14, 1931 in the Town of Croghan to Andrew and Nancy Leis Widrick. She attended Town of Croghan Country School and Beaver Falls High School. She married Ralph Taube on June 14, 1952 at the First Mennonite Church of New Bremen. They were members of the Croghan Mennonite Church for 12 years and became charter members of the Naumburg Mennonite Church in 1964.
LaVeda was very active in a variety of church activities. She was a wonderful wife and caring mother, an excellent cook, an avid gardener and loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed her extensive collections of dolls and teddy bears, and travelling to see family in New York, Ohio, Ontario and North Carolina. LaVeda enjoyed family reunion trips: in 2002 LaVeda and Ralph joined their children in Williamsburg VA to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and in 2008 they travelled to Bald Head Island, NC for Susan and Frank’s 30th wedding anniversary. Her passion in later years was the Adirondack Mennonite Heritage Association where she served as a trustee for over 10 years and hosted the craft tent at the annual Zwanzigstein Festival (Z Fest).
LaVeda is survived by her husband, Ralph; her five children Larry (Ann) of Greensboro, NC, James (Sue) of Middletown, OH, Susan (Frank) McVeigh of Cary, NC, Terry (Debbie) of Cazenovia and Michael of Watertown; and a sister Loretta Zehr of Croghan. She was blessed by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The grandchildren are: Jacob (Stephanie), Matthew (Lindsey), Jade (Mike Ison), Allison (Mark Cashin), David, Rebel (Will Hill), Paul (Amber), Robert (Anna) and Ryan. The three great grandchildren are: Galilee Grace (Jacob and Stephanie), Jolynn Elyse (Paul and Amber), Julia Dawn (Robert and Anna). She was predeceased by three brothers, Albert, Richard and Edward Widrick.
Family members extend a special thanks to the excellent and caring ICU nurses, doctors and staff who were involved in her care during her last 18 days at Upstate Medical Center.
Visitation hours will be held Saturday, December 8 from 4-7pm at Naumburg Mennonite Church. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM Sunday December 9, at the Naumburg Mennonite Church with the church ministry officiating. Burial will be in the Croghan Mennonite Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Adirondack Funeral Home, Croghan. Online condolences may be made at www.adirondackfh.com.
Memorials may be sent to the Adirondack Mennonite Heritage Association, PO Box 368 Croghan, NY 13327 or to the Naumburg Mennonite Church Building Fund, 5463 State Route 410 Castorland, NY 13620.

Dear Family, I cannot express how sad I am at the loss of my dear cousin and surely want you all to know that I am sending you my sincere sympathy. I will greatly miss all those visits we had with each other and the great times we had when we were able to be together. LaVeda will not be forgotten and I know one day we will be able to be together again. She leaves many happy memories for all of us that she has left behind. Now she is happy with the Lord. I love all of you, as I did her. Your cousin, Doris McFerren

Sorry to hear of Aunt LaVeda''s passing. I have wonderful memories of growing up with the family especially in her original home in Naumburg. She always had a smile on her face and was a very loving person. She will now be watching over her brothers Richard and Edward.

A new angel is in Heaven and I picture her cooking up a storm and dressing beautiful dolls for all to enjoy. Our loss is certainly Heaven's gain and may you receive comfort knowing she is at peace in His arms.
My love and prayers are with you all, I am so grateful I had the opportunity to visit with your Mom and Dad just 6 weeks ago, I have so many memories of them being so good to Mom and always having the children and me over whenever we were in Croghan, the kids loved Ralph taking them four wheeling!
Wishing I could be there to share in her celebration of life, know you are all in my prayers and thoughts!

It has been years, but Christmas cards were always exchanged. May all the good times you spent with LaVeda be of comfort to you now and a joy to you always.
I never think of her but what the aroma of banana bread, zucchini bread and great aromas from her summer kitchen don''t come to mind. I too will lament your loss.

Uncle Ralph and Larry, Jamie, Susan Terry and Michael,
Condolences to you all and your family members. A celebration of life is so fitting at this sad time. I too remember the good ol days in Naumburg when life was so much more slow paced and most times more enjoyable, or that may be just how we remember. Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday we would be at the house riding go-carts and eating out back. The circle of life comes to a close for us all, fortunately we all have memories that stay with us a lifetime.

Ralph and family, we just found out about LaVeda''''s passing, and express our sympathy to you. She and Elmer were in the same class in high school, and Eileen was most fond of her as a cousin. We treasure those several occasions, Ralph, when we would stop in with clocks for you to repair, all the way from Ohio, and have good visits with you. It was a blessing to see you both actively involved in the work and ministries of the church. May God''''s peace abundantly sustain you.

Dear Ralph and family,
When I think of Laveda it's always "Ralph and Laveda". Our families shared some really fun times and I will always cherish the friendship our parents had. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family as you walk this valley. She was a very thoughtful and kind lady and I count it a priviledge to call her my friend. God Bless.

Ralph, Sue, and the Taube family extended...we were saddened to hear of LaVeda's passing. We hope that you can draw strength and comfort in knowing how she was cared for and loved by family, friends, and mere acquaintances. LaVeda will live on in the hearts of those she came in contact with and touched during her life. Take solace in the beauty that she and Ralph created while they travelled through their life together. Our thoughts and prayers are with ALL at this time of pain and loss. We wish you comfort and peace.

So sorry to hear of Aunt LaVeda's passing. She was a wonderful, caring mother and wife. She was a wonderful cook and I have fond memories of summer picnics and later of visiting with my children, Ryan and Andy. I also worked with Aunt LaVeda for a short time and she was a wonderful co-worker.
I know now that she is at peace and no longer suffering and has been reunited with her brothers. May God Bless.
