CASTORLAND- Funeral services for Esther Zehr, 85, Van Amber Road will be held Saturday May 8th, at 10:30 AM at the Croghan Mennonite Church with her nephew, Rev. Evan Zehr, Lewis County Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Adirondack Funeral Home, Croghan.

Memorial donations may be made to Pine Grove Mennonite Church Missions Fund or a charity of ones choice.

Esther was born in Martinsburg, January 29, 1925 to John and Katie Moser Schwartzentruber. She was educated in Town of Martinsburg schools and Lowville Academy. She married Vernon Zehr August 24, 1944 at the Lowville Mennonite Church with the Rev. Joseph J. Zehr, officiating. She was a homemaker and helped in the operation of the family farm.

Esther was a member of the Pine Grove Mennonite Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knittingand crocheting. She was also an avid reader.

Besides her husband of Castorland she is survived by four sons and three daughters in law, Rev. Nathan and Ruth, Edmund and Edith of Castorland; Lowell and Louanne, Lowville and Stephen, Evansville, IN. She has three daughters and their husbands, Violet and Gordon Brown, Kemptville, Ontario, Canada; Juanita and Gary Burgess, Central Square; and Bethany and Ronald Lyndaker, Strasbourg, France. She has one sister- in- law Christina Schwartzentruber, Martinsburg, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by a son Patrick, a grandson Brenden, three brothers, Christian, John and Abner and two sisters Sarah Widrick and Mary Tanner.
